In discussions with attendees and exhibitors at BAI, a theme seems to be emerging: community banks, credit unions and smaller regional bank chains are not feeling the credit crunch like the big boys. As a result, the vendors whose products and services are geared towards smaller operations are still in play and having some positive discussions. That’s not to say it’s all sunshine and roses. In general, the scuttlebutt is that the show is more sluggish than last year’s (no big surprise). Still, as any trade-show warrior will tell you, there are always opportunities – even in down times – and cementing one good relationship can make the whole show worthwhile.
